The role of whales
did you know that whales provide up to 50% of our oxygen? Yes, they play a vital part in combating climate change.
They do this through their movement through the oceans, their feeding habits, and poo. This moves essential nutrients through the ocean that support marine life and ecosystems and locks in carbon from the atmosphere
The huge size of the whales enables them to lock in large amounts of carbon. However, over the years the intense whaling industry has reduced their ability to do this.
This is the remarkable role whales play in supporting life on our planet – we need them to continue.
