Underwater noise pollution is an international issue since acoustic energy does not recognize boundaries. Therefore, since 2002, OMI has refocused our efforts on educating and working with key international organizations including the European Parliament, the United Nations, and NATO on mitigating the impacts of intense underwater noise on marine life.
The Silent Oceans Coalition represents the cooperation of approximately 25 non-governmental organizations to protect marine mammals from ocean noise pollution.
OMI and OceanCare are members of the International Ocean Noise Coalition (IONC).
